André Luiz - Hail mans, that’s a great pleasure interviewer you. I watched Dark Funeral Sao Paulo gig in 2003, at the same Led Slay. Band was promoting the opus Diabolus Interium album, members were insane, Brazilian black metallers shouting lyrics like ‘The Arrival Of Satan's Empire’, ‘An Apprentice Of Satan’, ‘Open The Gates’, ‘Armageddon Finally Comes’… Really, that first South American Tour was an enormously successful. What did you know about Brazilian audience? Dark Funeral there wasn’t touring for here, so, why do you choose Brazil to recording a live album?
Lord Ahriman -
Last time we toured Brazil and Latin America, we had no expectations whatsoever. We had been told the Brazilian/ Latin American audience were killer, but we could not imagine that we would have such a strong fan base over there, as we obviously do. We became completely overwhelmed and for sure taken by surprise by the totally energetic and supportive crowd. It is also astonishing to see how much the interest for us as a band has improved since the last time we toured there. Latin America has indeed a special place in our blackened hearts. And we can’t wait to return! It was more of a coincident that we decided to record during that tour. We had been talking about recording a live album for quite some time. And when that tour came up we said. Let’s bring with us studio equipment and try and record as many of the shows as possible and see how it turns out. We did. And to our great surprise everything turned out killer. And the “De Profundis Clamavi Ad Te Domine" live album was born.

André Luiz - Dark Funeral will bring his full stage show to South American Tour, and you asked for help to record the Latin American gigs. What are your plans about a Live DVD release? Did you film other shows around the world for this work?
Lord Ahriman -
Yeah, we ask anyone with a good film camera (preferably more than one) to help us out and film the show(s), crowd etc, during this coming Latin American tour. The plans are naturally to gather enough material for a DVD. We already have some European shows professionally recorded, shows that we plan to release on DVD. But we also want to gather as much material as possible from Latin America to be able to release a DVD with material exclusive from Latin America. Therefore we also ask anyone who has some material from our 2003 tour to also send us a copy of the material. Everyone that helps us out with material that we end up using on the DVD will of course be highly credited. And receive a free copy of the DVD once it’s released.

André Luiz - After Sao Paulo gig, I saw you talking to Moyses Kolesne at bar. Many bands tell about heavy metal bands union, friendship between musicians, etc… On your opinion, is extreme metal scene united or it’s a great hypocrisy? Tell me about Krisiun sound and if you know other Brazilian bands.
Lord Ahriman -
Yeah. I’ve been in touch with Moyses since 1996 I believe. I was even promoting and distributing their “Black Force Domain” album in Scandinavia at that time, while Moyses were doing the same with our “The Secrets Of The Black Arts” in his territory. There is indeed a strong unity and friendship between many of the musicians in the extreme Metal community. The envy and this childish backstabbing are mostly between the fans and not the bands. I wish some of the fans would realize this and start acting like that actually cared about the scene instead of polluting it with bullshit attitudes.

André Luiz - Still about 2003, that was the first Chaq Mol tour with Dark Funeral (before, he played only in Wacken). You are three years living together, touring and playing alive… Tell me about Dominion replacement and Chaq Mol MUSICIAN and PERSON.
Lord Ahriman -
Chaq Mol is a very easy going guy with a great passion and dedication towards extreme metal and Dark Funeral of course. He is also a very skilled guitarist.

André Luiz - Attera Totus Sanctus was recorded, produced and mixed by Daniel Bergstrand and Orjan Ornkloo. What’s the difference between this production and Peter Tägtgren work (the same of all other full Dark Funeral studio albums)? Why did you choose to change the producer?
Lord Ahriman -
We had come to a point when we all felt it was time to move on and begin a completely new chapter in the Dark Funeral saga. And to change studio and producer(s) was a very important step for us to really feel that we actually had put the past behind I think. To work with Daniel and Orjan was killer. Personally I spent most of the time with Orjan, who really managed to bring the very best out of me. He not only inspired me to write, but I also learned a lot of new studio tricks by working with him. I’m totally satisfied with the production we got on the new album. And I’m pretty sure we will work with them on the next record too.

André Luiz - Dark Funeral new work was acclaimed for press metal scene: album of the month at French Rock Hard, third position at the Swedish Heavy Metal Chart. Tell me about this great reception and the reaction of the crowd alive.
Lord Ahriman -
Considering what kind of music we play, which isn’t even what the average Metal fan listen too, and the fact that our latest album is our most extreme album to date. We were all pretty surprised when was informed that “Attera Totus Sanctus” entered the Swedish album chart (top 40) and the Swedish heavy metal chart as # 3. Apparently we have a huge and killer fan base in Sweden too. Other than that we have received an amazingly positive feedback from both fans and press. So it’s all pretty cool I think.

André Luiz - After Dark Funeral official website research, fans choose “666 Voices Inside” the best ATS song. “The hundreds of voices inside my head, they will only stop the day I am dead”, this Caligula lyrics is very good and the mix between riffs strong/melodic and vocals shouts stick into my mind… do you emphasize other Attera Totus Sanctus song?
Lord Ahriman -
Thanx. This album is the first album that we write where I can’t find any direct weak links. They are all very personal. And each song reflects very strong and different emotions.

André Luiz - After Jon Nödtveidt suicide, many people demonstrate respect because he died believing in his own concept. Did you know Dissection frontman? What’s your opinion about this fact?
Lord Ahriman -
I knew Jon back in the days, before he was imprisoned. After that we lost contact unfortunately. He was indeed diehard to his lifestyle, a very talented guitarist/musician and always such a nice guy. After his release I only met him once, a couple of month before he decided to take his own life. I know there are several stories and rumors about WHY he decided to take his own life, but I think the real truth is still unknown. And if there’s someone who really knows the truth it is Jon’s father if anyone. Either way, we lost a great musician without a doubt!

André Luiz - What do you think about Gorgoroth member’s imprisonment? Do you know these musicians?
Lord Ahriman -
Don’t really know what they are convicted for. And it’s really not my intention to dig into that. But looking at them as a band, a band who just released a totally killer album, it’s indeed pity they have to spend time in jail instead of going out touring and promoting their latest work. I’m in touch with King and Infernus and once they all have served their time in jail we have plans to do some shows in Scandinavia together, which is something I’m really looking forward too.

André Luiz - Comment to me about these albums:
Lord Ahriman:
The Secrets Of Black Arts (1996) -
Our first full-length album and perhaps THE album that put Dark Funeral on the Metal map once and for all. Considered by many as a classic!
Vobiscum Satanas (1998) -
The album that brought the band and our music into an even more extreme direction.
Diabolis Interium (2001) -
Our third full-length album and the first time we actually hired Peter Tagtgren as a real producer and not only as a studio sound engineer.
Attera Totus Sanctus (2005) -
Our strongest, most personal and hate-filled album to date!

André Luiz - Lord Ahriman, tell me about your works beside Kyle Severn (Incantation) and Vincent Crowley (Acheron). Is Wolfen Society a parallel band, a project? What do you think about Dark Funeral members become involved in other bands/projects like you and Emperor (with his God Among Insects)?
Lord Ahriman -
I consider Wolfen Society to be a real band yet a side project. We all have our main priorities with our original bands. To have a side project is great I think. It helps to improve yourself as a musician, learn new things and so on.

André Luiz - Talk about a real funny situation happened with you on or back stage.
Lord Ahriman -
There’s always weird and funny things going on backstage, but what happen

André Luiz - Thank you so much for your attention. Let a messenger to Brazilian black metallers that wait Dark Funeral anxiously after the great Brazilian Tour in 2003. Have great days in Brazil, Cheers.
Lord Ahriman -
Thank you. This time we are more prepared than we was back in 2003. So I can assure you, that we have planned, and will give you a far superior show this time around. So raise those Metal Horns high. And we’ll see you in a couple of weeks!!!”
